Since its inception in 1988, QSound Labs, Inc. has established itself as one of the world's leading audio technology companies. The company has developed proprietary audio solutions that include virtual surround sound, positional audio and stereo enhancement for the consumer electronics, PC/multimedia, Internet and healthcare markets. QSound Labs' cutting-edge audio technologies create rich 3D audio environments allowing consumers to enjoy stereo surround sound from two, four or 5.1 speaker systems. The Khronos Group is a consortium founded in January 2000 by a number of leading media-centric companies, dedicated to creating open standard APIs to enable the authoring and playback of rich media on a wide variety of platforms and devices. The first specification produced by the group was OpenML™, enabling developers to easily integrate video, audio and graphics capabilities into their application suites, with portability across multiple operating systems, CPU architectures and add-in hardware devices. Subsequently, OpenGL® ES was developed as a specification that has seen enthusiastic adoption in devices destined for mobile and wireless terminals.
